What began as a low, dark, and forgotten top floor became a light-filled retreat that works as a study, guest room, and quiet escape — all within a tightly constrained footprint. The design turns the very limitation that made the space unusable, its sloped roofline, into its defining character.
Custom white-oak millwork wraps the room, folding from wall to ceiling to conceal storage, mechanical systems, and lighting within a single continuous surface. A perforated screen filters daylight from the dormer while preserving privacy, and integrated LED coves trace the geometry of the roof to make the ceiling feel as though it floats.
Every inch earns its place: built-in seating, a desk that cantilevers from the knee-wall, and concealed storage tucked into the eaves. The result is a space that feels generous despite its size — proof that thoughtful design, not square footage, is what makes a room.
