Tucked beneath the eaves of a classic Petworth row house, this top floor had to do a great deal in very little space. The design answers with invention at every turn — a wall of built-ins, a fold-down work surface, and clever storage that disappears into the slope of the roof.
Pale wood lines the walls and ceiling, bouncing daylight from a single dormer deep into the room. A perforated screen doubles as railing and light filter, and every joint is detailed to keep the small footprint feeling open, warm, and resolved.
The result drew a feature in ARCHITECTURE | DC — a case study in how much character a modest renovation can hold when every decision is considered.
